Want to learn more about my psychotherapy approach?

Meet Kathryn—

Kathryn Palmer M.Ed., RP, C.C.C.

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and I offer virtual services across the province of Ontario. Together, we can collaborate to identify specific and achievable goals in order to help you move towards what’s most meaningful in your life. I offer evidence-based care grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

My intention as a therapist is to create a compassionate space where clients can explore, gain insight, and move towards the vision of the life they want. I strive to bring authenticity and creativity to my sessions. I am always open to opportunities for collaboration and to adapt sessions to my client’s needs in order to create a meaningful therapy experience.

General Areas of Practice

My training experiences as well as the clinical supervision that I have completed in ACT and other contextual behavioral science approaches allow me to work with a wide range concerns. I offer services to individuals, couples, and groups.

My common areas of practice include developing skills for managing symptoms related to ADHD, Motivation, Procrastination, Skills for Time Management/Organization/Planning (including for University Students), Anxiety, Social Anxiety and Shyness, Depression, Grief and Loss, Navigating Life Transitions, Relationship Issues, Self-Esteem, Stress Management, Shame/Self-Criticism, Perfectionism.

Experience in Mental Health

I have worked in the field of mental health and mental health research since 2011. I have offered individual therapy and academic counselling in a university setting for students with disabilities, short-term solution-focused therapy and crisis intervention in an employee assistance program, and I have over 8 years of experience completing individual, couples, and group therapy in a private practice setting.

Professional Community Involvement

Over the years, I have actively participated in the Contextual Behavioural Science community in Ontario. I participated in the creation of the Ottawa Affiliate of ACBS, and later went on to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Chapter of ACBS as the Chair-Elect from 2018-2020, and the Chair from 2020-2022.

I have organized and facilitated professional workshops and webinars related to ACT for mental health professionals. Over the years I have enjoyed sharing my perspective on ways to integrate ACT interventions with principles from Attachment Theory when working with couples, as well as using ACT when working with individuals with ADHD.
